Kaya Africa was formed in Johannesburg in 2000. They are a fully professional group consisting of marimbas, one steel pan and drummer/percussionist. Disciplined and serious about their profession, they are one of South Africa’s top Afro/Ethnic bands.
Daniel Dlamini is band leader and founder of the group, and plays marimba, steel pan and African drums. He also makes all instruments himself. The group wear traditional African costumes and play traditional African tunes, Caribbean music and a variety of other styles of music.
Two dancers can be added who perform Bushman, Zulu and Xhosa dancing.
Apart from corporate and private events and music festivals, they also perform regularly at restaurants in and around Johannesburg and have performed in Algeria and Spain.
