Dr. Sibongile Khumalo
Sibongile Khumalo was born to sing. Her father, a renowned music professor and historian, nurtured the talent he identified in his young daughter by enrolling her in his violin, dance and music classes, cultivating the passion that would define her life. His multi-disciplined approach to her education was responsible for the multifaceted artist Sibongile has become, mastering genres as diverse as jazz, opera and traditional African rhythms.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of Zululand, and then moved on to the University of the Witwatersrand, where she graduated with an Honours Degree in the History of Music. Then she was approached, at the youthful age of 24, to head up FUBA’s music department (The Federated Union of Black Arts). Soon realising that an in-depth knowledge of the administrative side of the music industry would strengthen her artistic qualifications, she registered for a Higher Diploma in Personnel Management, which she attained in 1986. She put her qualifications to use at the Funda Centre as their Arts Centre Coordinator, where she was based for three years.
Sibongile Khumalo represents the best of South African music and is the epitome of the perfect New South African.
