Dave Charles

Dave takes us on a journey back in time to when a boy born out of wedlock rose above the torment and humiliation of his circumstances to build an empire. This he would do through careful planning, strategy and development of the tools he would need and the team that would give him his victory and the leadership to manage them.  So strong was this magic spell that fifty years later the legacy of Shaka would prevail against the world's military superpower, Britain. At Isandlwana, 127 years ago this year, the Zulu army would win a victory that would catapult them into the international spotlight and create a legacy that persists today.

After graduating with honours in Dramatic Arts, Dave worked as an actor and then a specialist television producer for SABC. He also worked as a DJ for Radio 5 and presented various TV programmes.

Then for over five years, Dave moved back to his roots in the Rorke's Drift area of KwaZulu Natal, where he built a lodge and spent his time sharing his passion for history and culture of the Zulu people.  He now shares that passion with visitors to the coast of that province.

On the lighter side, another option is to let Dave relate some of the truly wondrous stories of Herman Charles Bosman in “An evening with Oom Schalk Lourens” and his guitar and fine vocals have been the core of many memorable evenings around the campfire.
