Dimpie Tshabalala is one of South Africa’s top established pianists and band leaders. He has paid his dues as a professional musician over the past 25 years. His versatility extends from a solo piano/keyboard entertainer to backing musician. He normally plays with his trio or quartet but can augment the band up to a seven piece with brass section depending on the occasion.
His style of playing covers everything from jazz (trad. and Sophiatown), latins, ballads, middle of the road and township music. Apart from his playing abilities, Dimpie Tshabalala is an extremely good singer and between him and Archie (his bass player who is also a vocalist of note), they cover music across the full spectrum of styles.
The musicians in his band are drawn from the crème de la crème. They play for many of the major corporate functions, dinner-dance awards banquets, clubs, private parties and weddings. Dimpie has also played for the opening of many S.A. Breweries depots.
His trio performed and backed cabaret artiste Abegail Kubeka at the Royal Pacific in Hong Kong for three weeks. They also played at the official welcoming banquet for the Australian cricket team at the Sandton Sun. Over Christmas and New Year the band went to Kenya to the prestigious Nairobi Safari Lodge. The band recently performed in Prague for the South African Embassy with great success and they recently returned from Dubai after completing a three-month contract. On the local front, they are regularly seen performing at the Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank.
