Denis Beckett

Denis Beckett continues his long-running determination -- impolite people say "obsession" -- to establish that an upgrade of politics is waiting to be installed.

The upgrade has two main features: (1) much more accountability, which we will acquire by (2) freeing communities to choose their own powers.

Denis says: " Know that for me this is not a game. My beautiful country continues to be injured by inadequate politics that ought to now become obsolete"
.
He attended University of the Witwatersrand where he attained a BA and LLB.

Started as an Advocate. Defected to journalism, envisaging less status and less money but more fun.

He ran Frontline magazine from 1979 to 1991, abundantly validating the status and money predictions. In 1994 re-defected to TV with Beckett’s Trek, until the SABC discovered better uses for its airwaves.

Currently an author by instinct and a corporate hired gun/pen/mouth/brain to pay the bills. Books include The Fallacy of Heroes, Madibaland, Jetlag and Redeeming Features. Corporate work mainly involves (a) putting concerns about Africa and/or South Africa into context, especially for people needing a bit of fortification, and (b) resolving tensions that inhibit fulfilment, effectiveness, contentment, or all of these.

His Corporate work mainly involves finding, raising and resolving the kinds of tensions that inhibit people from doing their jobs optimally.

On the awards front, he has twice received the “SFW Award for Enterprising Journalism; the Shell/JCC “Four Outstanding Young South Africans” citation and the Mondi Magazine Award.
