This award-winning journalist hosts the daily 702 Breakfast Show and co-anchors SABC’s 24-hour News Channel from 18h00 – 21h00 every weekday. This includes presenting the 21h00 bulletin (simulcast on SABC 3).
Formerly he was with weekly current affairs show Carte Blanche on MNet.
Bongani Bingwa is much in-demand as an MC at corporate functions. From The Gary Player Invitational to the Inyathelo Awards, he has hosted events for some of the country’s biggest corporate names including Standard Bank, the development Bank, the CRF-Business Report Leading Managers, the FNB Tourism Indaba and many others.
He has worked on Channel O, SABC English News and ‘Your Own Business’ to mention a few.
His background as a journalist includes a previous stint on 702 where he began as a News Anchor and progressed to hosting his own show ‘Talk at Nine’. He then hosted ‘Afternoon Drive’ in 2017.
He has interviewed ordinary folks as well as international stars and leading politicians. Highlights include, Luther Van Dross, George Benson, Malcolm Gladwell, Spike Lee, government ministers, opposition political leaders, senior business executives, authors and other high profile individuals – too many to mention!
Bongani Bingwa was educated at Wits University where he studied for a B.A. degree majoring in History and English. Bongani has also completed various courses on Youth Development and has a strong passion for mentorship programmes which involve young people. He was highlighted as part of with a select group of film and television media specialists in Vanity Fair’s Africa feature.
He is fluent in English and isiXhosa with “patchy” Afrikaans.
