It was Beethoven who said “Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman” and that is so true. Just think about how important music is in our daily lives.

From waking up – (news radio isn’t everyone’s cup of tea) – to singing in the shower, to travelling to work, at work if the environment allows, home again and then relaxing at the end of the day. And think how music has created some of the most significant soundtracks to the landmarks in our lives.

Well, a microcosm of life, is the encapsulation of what we all do, and any gathering when like-minded people meet to share, to celebrate, to commemorate or to just let down their hair, would be an empty space without great music to accompany it.

And what makes music great – or right - or appropriate? The answer is simple ! Look at the audience, their ages, their backgrounds and identify not only what they have in common – but equally important, what makes them different? Sure pop music is wonderful, but what you boogied to is not necessarily the same as what someone on the other side of town jived to! You may love opera, but we all know that it is not universally wondered at.

So when considering music or musicians for any event, be it an awards function, a serene dinner or a business breakfast, think about music and bands to enhance the mood and add to the atmosphere.

Background jazz or light classics, a solo violinist, harpist or saxophonist, a party band to rock the rafters or a DJ to get everyone on their feet.

Then there’s pure entertainment or cabaret; the top local tenors, a duet of strumming guitarists, an a-capella group, a top pop group, excerpts from the shows – you name it, it’s all music, but it’s certainly not all the same. And yes, it will ad a measurable difference to any occasion and move it from OK to memorable.
