Andile Mazwai

Andile Mazwai is an established name in South Africaʼs capital markets.

He has enjoyed success in a number of disciplines; an entrepreneur when he founded his own stockbroking firm, a corporate leader as the CEO of two listed companies and a social entrepreneur as the Governor of the National Stokvel Association.

Mazwai also has a strong track record in governance. He has chaired investment and governance committees of listed companies and has chaired school governing bodies.

2017 ‒ 2018 CEO, Rebosis Property Fund Mazwai had been a founding non-executive director of Rebosis (2011) and its listed subsidiary New Frontier (2014). In 2017 he was appointed Rebosis COO as a precursor to
being appointed CEO later in that same year.
Mazwai resigned from Rebosis in April 2018 following an impasse with the board regarding the firmʼs strategy.

2013 ‒ 2017 CEO, National Stokvels Association of South Africa. Mazwai, with his business partner, bought the entire shareholding in NASASA and capitalised the business. NASASA is a self regulatory organisation authorised by the Registrar of Banks. Further to its regulatory role, NASASA operates as a marketing and activations platform for brands wishing to access the R50bn stokvel market. In his term as CEO, Mazwai built the membership from 3,000 groups to 125, 000 groups.

2011 ‒ 2012 Mazwai took a family sabbatical in the village of Mougins in the South of France.

In 2007 he was appointed Group CEO of BJM Holdings. Still under his leadership, BJM Securities continued its success in institutional stockbroking, being ranked first place overall in research and third in trading in 2009 and 2010 in the annual Financial Mail Survey. The firm also enjoyed success in debt capital markets, raising capital for the City of Johannesburg, SANRAL, Eskom and other parastatals. BJM Private Client Services, launched in 2000. In 2010 Mazwai led the unbundling of the Group, unlocking shareholder value. BJM Securities (South Africa) was sold to Russian investment bank Renaissance while BJM Securities (USA and UK) were sold to Indian investment bank Religare.. The remainder of the business which included BJM Private Client Services and FinSettle Services was sold to First National Bank.

2004 ‒ 2010 Mazwai was appointed CEO of BJM Securities, South Africaʼs largest independent stockbroker.

In August of 2003, he sold Mazwai Securities to BJM Securities, a subsidiary of the then JSE listed company, BJM Holdings.

2001 ‒ 2003 He founded Mazwai Securities in October 2001. Amongst its accolades, Mazwai Securities was a co-manager in the listing of Telkom and the firm was rated in two categories for its research in the annual Financial Mail Survey of stockbrokers, 2003.

1998 ‒ 2001 Mazwai began his stockbroking career with Barnard Jacobs Mellet Securities as an equities trader.
