Mango Groove

With over 12 chart-topping hits and every major South African music and video award to their name, Mango Groove is a cultural icon. The group made history as the only South African act to sell out the Sun City Superbowl and Standard Bank Arena six times and were trailblazers in staging, sponsorship, and chart success. For over a year, they dominated national sales, while also using their music to raise funds for causes including literacy, conservation, and care for terminally ill children.

Internationally, their infectious fusion of Marabi, Kwela, and pop – led by the soaring voice of Claire Johnston and the unmistakable pennywhistle – has wowed audiences across the globe. Highlights include a satellite performance during the Freddie Mercury tribute (watched by over a billion people), three encores at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and appearances in Paris, Hong Kong, London, Toronto, and Sydney.

They were the only African act invited to perform at Hong Kong’s 1997 reunification concert, and their music scored the global broadcast of Nelson Mandela’s release, before they headlined his inauguration celebration.

Eclectic yet accessible, Mango Groove’s distinctive sound is timeless – a joyful homage to South Africa’s musical heritage with a contemporary pop sensibility.
