Brass Surpass

Cathy del Mei joins forces with Femi Ogunkoya to form this ear-pleasing duo.

Vibrant and vivacious, Cathy is an exciting saxophonist with many years of providing sweet sax sounds from hotel lounges and theatres to clubs and corporate functions.

Apart from the sax, Cathy del Mei is also a great keyboard player, having played cocktail piano in numerous elite hotels such as the Michelangelo and the Balalaika.

She has also backed the likes of renowned artistes like PJ Powers and Vicky Sampson as well as having spent two years performing and recording with Duncan Faure (Rabbitt, Bay City Rollers, songwriter for Madonna).

Her formal musical qualifications include a 3 year National Diploma in Light Music from Pretoria Technikon and a Certificate in Basic Sound Engineering.

Add Femi to the mix. He is the new face of the African Renaissance. Combining Afrobeat and jazz, gospel and blues and West African highlife with a nostalgic Sophiatown flavour. His music is a rich blend of deep and sultry jazz with a contemporary groove. His life’s journey – a story of migration to the South – resonates in his music, which creates a conscious dialogue between West African and South African sounds.

Saxes and trumpet – a musical fusion to demonstrate the path to a new and culturally integrated Africa – with the option to add vocals when the occasion calls for it.
