Dave Duarte
Dave Duarte is a marketing technologist and story-maker.
Recognised by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader at Davos, he has worked on the ground in 25 countries to build communities and movements that have reached over 1 billion people
Passionate about learning, Dave chairs the Reach Trust, a non-profit that develops and manages mobile apps used by millions of South Africans to improve their literacy, numeracy, and employability. He is also a voting member of the academy of the Global Teacher Prize, . socially minded digital media maven whose campaigns have influenced change in fields ranging from telecommunications to environmental protection.
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Dave has given talks (including speeches at the United Nations and the World Economic Forum in Davos) and lectures as has moderated or MC’d events in more than 20 countries.
He is CEO at Treeshake, one of the world’s leading Advocacy Organisations, working on issues ranging from ocean protection and water conservation, to the adoption of new health-tech and energy-saving devices.
Previously, he was Programme Director at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business; headed up Creative Commons South Africa; founded and led the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy; and served on the Board of the Mail & Guardian news group.
Beyond work Dave is a dog dad, amateur athlete and volunteer. He sings in a choir and plays piano, teaches meditation, enjoys tennis, and loves running fast!
