Dawie Roodt

Dawie Roodt is the chief economist and a director at a financial services company.  An economist who specialises in fiscal and monetary policy, he brings invaluable exposure to any group through his active presence in both the local and foreign media. He has been a member of the Tax Advisory Committee of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut and has represented Business SA at Nedlac. Dawie is an ambassador for Child Welfare (Bloemfontein), Childline (Free State) and the Adopt Moreletaspruit Forum. His career in economic and political analysis spans over 20 years and includes nine years as an economist at the South African Reserve Bank as well as being the economic editor of a financial publication.

His academic qualifications include a Masters degree (cum laude) in economics.

Dawie is known for his extensive knowledge of the South African economy, his analytical  nature and exceptional communication skills. He is highly efficient in converting complicated  economic information into everyday language.

Regular television appearances, broadcasts on radio stations and comments in the print  and electronic media have all contributed to making him one of South Africa’s most quoted  economists. Dawie is also an MBA lecturer on macro-economics at the University of  Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).

In 2007, Dawie received his national colours for powered paragliding and he represented  South Africa at the World Championship in China. His other hobbies include scuba diving, clay  pigeon shooting, ichthyology (the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish) and the odd breakfast run.
