Isaah Mhlangu

Isaah Mhlangu is the Executive Chief Economist of Alexforbes and a member of Alexforbes Investments Limited executive committee (Exco) responsible for oversight on over R420bn in pension fund assets. His primary responsibility is formulating the macroeconomic strategy for the business and its clients.

He has more than a decade’s industry experience spanning both public and private sector, having started his professional career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s local regional office in Pretoria.

He has worked for the National Treasury’s economic policy unit which is responsible for macroeconomic forecasting and the coordination of government’s economic policy.

His private sector experience spans roles as an economist at two local investment banks, where he was responsible for macro-economic strategy and forecasting before he joined Alexforbes.

Isaah has also lectured under-graduate economics and econometrics at the University of Johannesburg.

He is a Trustee of Study Trust and a non- executive Board Member of Kutlwanong, both non-profit organisations in the education sector.

Isaah is a Fellow of Economic Research Southern Africa (ERSA) and a columnist for the Business Day and Sunday Times; he writes on fiscal and monetary policy, financial markets and investments. Isaah was named Economist of the Year 2019 by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP).
