Dr Victor & Rasta Rebels
For over four decades, Dr. Victor & The Rasta Rebels have been igniting stages across South Africa and beyond with their electrifying blend of reggae, pop, and R&B. Fronted by the charismatic Victor Khojane, affectionately known as Dr. Victor, this ensemble has become synonymous with infectious rhythms and unforgettable live performances.
Today, Dr. Victor & The Rasta Rebels remain one of South Africa’s most sought-after live bands, captivating audiences at corporate events, festivals, and concerts. Their unwavering passion and energy ensure that dance floors stay packed, solidifying their legacy as true icons of the South African music scene.
Dr. Victor’s musical odyssey began in his school days with the band CC Beat, drawing inspiration from African pop legends like Blondie & Papa and international icons such as The Jackson Five. In 1984, CC Beat captivated Johannesburg’s nightclub scene, leading to collaborations with South African luminaries including Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Chicco Twala. Their evolution into ‘Taxi’ saw them backing renowned artists like Lucky Dube, further honing their distinctive sound.
The pivotal moment arrived in 1991 when the band, under the moniker The Rasta Rebels, released a tribute album featuring Eddy Grant classics. Their rendition of “Gimme Hope Jo’Anna” resonated nationwide, propelling them into the limelight. Embracing the name Dr. Victor & The Rasta Rebels, they embarked on a journey marked by chart-topping hits and accolades, including two South African Music Awards for “Shambala” and “Sunshine Daze”.
Their dynamic presence has graced international stages, opening for legends like Paul Simon, Gloria Estefan, and Janet Jackson. Albums such as “Faya” and “The Best of The Rasta Rebels” have garnered international acclaim, achieving double Gold status and captivating audiences in France, Mexico, Japan, and the Middle East.
Fans and critics alike laud their performances.
